Tasting Chilean EVOO is an art that can open your senses.  Chilean Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) is similar to wine, with unique & complex flavors that connoisseurs spend years perfecting the ability to detect. Like a wine tasting, an Olive Oil tasting involves multiple senses, and requires a willingness to experience something new.

To get the most out of your Chilean EVOO flavor experience, we break it down into 6 steps to become an expert Chilean EVOO taster.

EVOO tasting steps

1.  Pour

Pour a small amount of oil (about 1 tablespoon) into a cup or glass similar to a wine glass.

 2.  Swirl

Place one hand over the glass to cover it while your other hand cups the glass from underneath, warming the oil.  Swirl the glass in your hands to release the oil’s aromas, from 30 seconds to one minute.

3.  Sniff

After swirling, uncover the glass and quickly breath in the aroma of the Chilean EVOO.  What do the scents remind you of?

 4.  Slurp

It’s okay to slurp your food when tasting Chilean EVOO!  Sip the oil while sucking air into your mouth, making that unpopular noise.  The air helps release the most flavor from the oil.   Let it rest in your mouth before swallowing

5.  Cleanse Palate

Cleanse your palate with a tart green apple (such as Granny Smith), so you can be ready to taste your next unique & delicious Chilean EVOO.

 6.  Repeat!

Enjoy savoring the flavors of different Chilean EVOOs! Perhaps you find that you enjoy the mild freshness of an Arbequina blend, or the bold, fruity “bite” of the Picual varietal.
